Angela Benton, RYTYoga InstructorAngie’s introduction to Yoga was from a book she discovered at a thrift store in upstate NY in 1995. She began a practice of breathing exercises and Yoga poses at home and it wasn't long before she realized that she was becoming more centered, open-minded and felt revitalized. Yoga had gracefully become a doorway for her to find a sense of peace and lightness during heavy times in life. Angie continued to study Yoga in college until 2002 with Retha Cazel and meditation with Elaine Corwin, both of Corning, NY. She is a Yoga Alliance registered teacher and has earned a teaching certification in Hatha Yoga with Iyengar alignment from Yandara Yoga Institute in Baja California Sur, Mexico. During that time, she was trained and practiced techniques of asanas, pranayamas, meditation, chanting, anatomy & physiology, Yogic philosophy, ethics and life-style, and teaching practicum. Angie is also certified in Integrative Reflexology by Claire Marie Miller, using acupressure on feet and hands. Her Yoga classes have been described as a meditative flow, challenging for both the body and mind. “I feel that for whatever reason people begin a Yoga practice, they discover that the benefits go well beyond enhancing their physical health and mental acuity to promoting emotional balance and spiritual awareness as well. My practice today is about being an observer of mind and body, creating space and being aware.” Some additional certifications Angie has earned are in Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga and Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga from the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, NC. “Many teachers have inspired me over the years to share Yoga as being so much more than a pursuit of asana (posture). My greatest love is helping others become in tune with themselves through their bodies to feel Divine inner peace, or Divine Shanti.” |
